They activate a free book loan campaign

“I lend you a free book” is a program that takes mobile libraries to popular neighborhoods, public squares, markets and parks. The strategy they carry out to achieve this is to make different agreements with the Municipalities to be able to access their respective libraries.

From this program, we spoke with Elvin Herrada, spokesperson for the campaign, who said that they take the books out to a public square, for example, so that the people gathered there can see them, read their titles and, just by giving their personal data, acquire a volume on loan for one week.

“Understanding that few people go to the Library for fear of catching the virus, then you have to take the books to them, this is the initiative that seeks to educate people, guide them and provide volumes with content for the whole family” , he pointed.

Herrada mentioned that in squares or parks there are lecterns with different literary works, a table and a large sign that says: “I lend you a free book.” Many approach and show interest in a book, these people are asked for their ID number, a phone number and the book is lent to them.

This itinerant Libraries program has shown its books in the districts of Surquillo, San Bartolo, San Juan de Lurigancho, Punta Negra, Villa María del Triunfo, registering 800 readers per month.

“It is carried out thanks to the donations of books made by writers, intellectual journalists and various institutions that are committed to encouraging the habit of reading in the popular neighborhoods of our country,” he said.

Finally, he stated that the campaign “I lend you a free book” seeks to activate more readers every day and its goal is to do so throughout the national territory, to reverse what has been said by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Scientific Organization). la Cultura) who declared that Peru is the country that reads the least.
