They acknowledge non-compliance with more than 25 million liters of milk in Sancti Spíritus

The authorities of the province of Santi Spíritus recognized a breach of more than 25 million liters of milk in the production plan.

In this sense, during the first eight months of the year, it has only been possible to meet 40% of the milk that was planned at the beginning of 2023.

As if that were not enough, the forecasts for the rest of the year are no better, since more than half of the so-called milk harvest has already passed, a time that coincides with the rainiest months of the year, when animal feed is more abundant.

The director of the Sancti Spíritus Dairy Products company, Alberto Cañizares Rodríguez, explained that the municipalities with the greatest milk deficit were Cabaiguán and Taguasco, two territories that in the past were known for their great contribution to milk production.

The state media Escambray points out that the main causes of this deficit are the low prices at which the product is purchased, as well as the high mortality of cattle due to hunger and illegal slaughter.

At the moment, the Dairy Products Company pays 20 Cuban pesos (CUP) for each liter of milk, a price that was established after the so-called “ordering task”, and which does not cover many of the expenses made by the peasants.

The price is insufficient, even with the incentive of an additional 20 CUP for each liter for farmers who overcomply with their delivery plan, since the rampant inflation that plagues the country has increased the price of all services and products that are traded on the Island. .

The Minister of Economy and Planning in Cuba, Alejandro Gil, recently acknowledged that the regime cannot find strategies to curb inflation, which is why the Government is incapable of satisfying the needs of the people.

During the National Assembly, the official indicated that retail mercantile circulation experienced minuscule growth (9%), so it was not enough to start “a process of containing inflation.”

cattle rustling

Cattle theft, as well as its illegal slaughter, has become a serious problem for the island’s peasants, not only in the province of Sancti Spíritus.

According to the independent media 14 intervene, several farm workers in Granma have denounced an increase in cases of robberiesHowever, the Castro authorities do nothing to help.

In this sense, they maintain that they benefit from what is happening, since they also buy meat at excessively low prices, without bothering to verify the legitimate source of this product.

Because of this, many say they are taking action to confront the bandits, refusing to stand idly by while these people continue to hurt their source of income.
