The activation of the “panic button” led to the spontaneous arrest of a man who broke into his ex-partner’s apartment in Thessaloniki at dawn to see his two minor children.
The defendant, with a history of abusive behavior towards his wife – and mother of his children – was sentenced by the Single-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki to eight months in prison, with a three-year suspension.
“He entered the house through the kitchen door. He started swearing at me and threatening me, I was afraid that he would take the children and leave, so I pressed the panic button”the woman testified in court, stressing that she is afraid to sleep at home, while explaining that she installed the specific application on her mobile phone, after another episode that had preceded it.
The accused stated that he reached this point because he had to see his children for a month. “The kids hugged me and while we were talking she pressed the button and the police came”he apologized, denying that he threatened the woman.
