Cocaine worth more than 2.9 million euros was found by customs inspectors of the Independent Public Revenue Authority in a load of fresh bananas in Thessaloniki.
The container had arrived at the port of Thessaloniki from Ecuador, with a French company as consignee, which sends bananas to Romania.
From the control through the self-propelled X Ray, eighty (80) parcels of cocaine were identified, carefully hidden in a special area of the cooling mechanism, with a total gross weight of 92.7 kg.
The inspectors immediately proceeded to confiscate both the narcotics and the container, handed the goods over to the Greek Police for safekeeping and informed the competent Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation to identify the recipients of the drugs continues.
