Two backpacks with 16 Molotov cocktails were found earlier on the AUTH campus and handed over to the police by university officials.
In its announcement about the marches that took place in the morning and about the incidents that followed, the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki points out that “during the gatherings, groups of people were cut off from the crowd and proceeded to throw Molotov cocktails, stones, torches and flares at of the police forces, while they caused damage to shops and buildings”
“The police forces made the necessary use of the appropriate means, as a result of which they pushed the people away and dispersed in various directions,” the announcement states.
“In total, during the manifestation of the police measures, 4 arrests were made, of which 3 turned into arrests, while two backpacks were confiscated, which were handed over to the police forces by university employees and contained a total of 16 improvised incendiary-explosive devices (Molotov cocktails)” , the announcement concludes.
The arrested men are 19, 20 and 21 years old and have been charged on a case-by-case basis with the offenses of disturbing the peace, attempted grievous bodily harm, insulting and resisting and breaching weapons legislation. A case was filed against unknown persons for the backpacks.
