57 chairs were set up on Wednesday afternoon at the Venizelos Statue in the center of Thessaloniki in memory of the 57 victims who perished in the tragedy in Tempi, for a journey that could not be fulfilled. At the same time, a new march began in Thessaloniki on the occasion of the black anniversary.
According to thestival.gr, the march started from the OSE and heads east through Monastiriou street. It is attended by trade union members, students and ordinary citizens.
Some of them hold banners in their hands and shout slogans. “Justice now”, is written on one of them.
Traffic is diverting traffic depending on where the march is moving. Earlier, a rally was held at the OSE.
The 57 chairs
The 57 chairs must not be vacated for as many hours as a journey would have taken, where people take turns sitting in a seat that must not be vacated, holding a candle in tribute to the victims.
According to thestival.gr, the Dance Teachers’ Association for the sad anniversary carried out a symbolic action for the tragedy that occurred exactly one year ago and shocked the whole country, which started at 19:22 and will last until 23:30.
“The Dance Teachers’ Association believes that the events that have marked the social fabric should be highlighted, not covered up, and those responsible should be punished. The crime in Tempe must not be forgotten,” they state in their announcement.

No, the dead will not come back. However, it will be an essential message to every direction of power that crimes do not go unpunished.
It will be clear to every citizen who has authority that he should work for the good of the whole, for the welfare of the citizens and for the protection of human life and dignity of the citizens.
Finally, the State and the respective authorities should not hide behind corruption, entanglement by perpetuating privileges and positions and knowing that everything goes unpunished.
