Gwyneth Paltrow found out about her Polish roots in 2011 thanks to participation in the program “Who Do You Think You Are“, in which the participants examined their origins under the watchful eye of BBC cameras and could learn something about their ancestors. It was then that the actress discovered that her great-great-grandfather Simon Paltrovich emigrated to the USA from Poland, and his brother was a rabbi in Nowogród and his name was Hersz Peletrowicz. Moreover, the actress recently founded a commemorative plaque describing the history of the Jewish community in Novgorod, dating from the 15th century to the Holocaust.
