As of October, six cities and municipalities in southern Baden will be able to write an additional designation on the signs of their place names. This should promote community cohesion.
From October in Bötzingen (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district) the “wine community” will be added, Weil am Rhein (Lörrach district) will therefore be the “city of the three states”. This made possible a change to the municipal code of Baden-Württemberg, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior. In this way, according to the Ministry of the Interior, each municipality can express its self-image of the municipality and the population.
In the past it was mainly assigned the suffix “university city” or “spa”. For example: “Freiburg im Breisgau – university town”. Today, additional designations can also refer to a place’s features or historical past.
–
Fauststadt, city of 3 countries or Schäferlaufstadt – these are three examples of new additional designations in BW. A total of 19 cities and municipalities will receive a name suffix from October.
Moreover…
–
From 1 October, cities and municipalities can formally use the additional name. It also means: it is quite possible that many place name signs look different from October.
Further designations are welcome in Baden-Württemberg
A total of 19 cities and municipalities across Baden-Württemberg have applied for such additional designations this year, of which six are in southern Baden. This means that a total of 80 municipalities and districts in Baden-Württemberg now have an additional designation in their names.
These six municipalities in southern Baden are getting new “subtitles”:
- Bötzingen (Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district): wine community
