You can get this STI through unprotected sex. So use a condom and prevent the bacteria from entering the mucous membranes of your throat, vagina, anus or urethra. Also clean your sex toys well. You can get antibiotics for LGV, but the course lasts three weeks. So prevention is better than cure.

Trichomonas

Trichomonas is a parasite that can cause your vagina, urethra or bladder to become inflamed. It is transmissible through contact with mucous membranes of the genitals, secretions, pre-cum and semen. So you can get this STI through sex, but also by using the same towel as someone who is infected.

This STD can be treated well, but the complaints are anything but pleasant. According to the RIVM, the symptoms of Trichomonas are: itchy vagina, a lot of (foul-smelling) discharge – sometimes yellow-green with foam bubbles – thick, red labia and urination can also hurt. You can get symptoms between 1 and 4 weeks after sex. There is a course of antibiotics against this STD, but quite safe with a condom to prevent it.

Mycoplasma genitalium

This STD occurs in many people, but almost no one has clear symptoms in the short term. It is clear that it can be very harmful in the long term. In men it can cause inflammation in the urethra and in women the fallopian tubes, cervix and urethra can become inflamed. It can also occur in your throat or rectum.

A Mycoplasma genitalium infection is very similar to gonorrhea and chlamydia. For this reason, it is believed that the long-term effects will also be the same as these STIs. In women, untreated gonorrhea or chlamydia infection can lead to ectopic pregnancies, pain, and infertility. There is a course of antibiotics against it, but there is no guarantee that the bacteria will really be gone after a month. So condoms are your best friend.
