While some of its players are playing the international break, AS Monaco continues to cling to its European side. Despite a last convincing victory against PSG (3-0), the Principality club will have to pay attention to a few small details which can have serious consequences.
Currently 7th in the Ligue 1 standings, Philippe Clement’s team remains very unpredictable and irregular on the pitch. This is illustrated by his average performances against clubs like Bordeaux, Reims, Nantes or even Lorient, and his successful gala matches against OL, OM, or even PSG.
In details
In view of the statistics, AS Monaco is a fairly impatient team on the pitch. In a hurry to want to win each meeting, Wissam Ben Yedder’s teammates try to impose their entry game and play with speed. This would explain his total number of offsides (72), ahead of PSG (69). Unfortunately, success does not always smile on them.
The ASM has most missed passes since the start of the season: 2,685 total passes. It is also the second club having committed the most fouls so far (383), behind FC Nantes (396). These small stoppages, sometimes occurring at key moments, can spoil the plans of the Monegasques during important matches.
A little source of contentment
Since the start of the season, AS Monaco has obtained eight penalties. All have been transformed. Alone Angers and Lyon have the same stat. Monaco is the team that has won the most duels so far (1,624 duels won), before Lyon (1 569) and Strasbourg (1 552).
The ASM will have to monitor these small details which could cost them dearly, especially at the end of the season. When it resumes next weekend, the Monegasques will travel to Metz and try to continue their good recovery.
