these robots brave winter conditions to deliver meals

Russian tech giant Yandex is currently carrying out a very promising test. Its 20 robots called Yandex.Rover are delivering customers to restaurants in central Moscow. This initiative is done as part of its Yandex.Eats food ordering platform. It seems to be working well and a company spokesperson explained to Reuters that she was going to expand the testing area.

Amazon already uses robots for its deliveries to the United States

On this presentation video, we can see the robot making its way onto the snowy ground of the Russian capital. Once at the customer’s place, the latter unlocks it using his smartphone and picks up his order.

It remains to be seen whether in the long term, these robots are not likely to take the work of the many delivery people on the platforms. A tribute was also paid to them recently in Moscow for their essential role played during the first confinement.

As a reminder, delivery robots are being developed all over the world. This is particularly the case in the United States where Amazon relies heavily on Scout. Like Yandex.Rover, it is able to deliver customers to their homes while traveling on city sidewalks. Jeff Bezos’ firm has also extended its field of action last July.

Other large American companies make deliveries by autonomous vehicle. Thus, at the end of 2019, Walmart announced a new project in partnership with the company Nuro. R2-type models as well as Toyota Prius crisscross the city of Houston to fulfill customer orders. The supermarket giant then said it wanted to better stick to the aspirations of users.
