These photos will make you 37 years old. Transport yourself to the streets of Prague in 1986. Do you recognize yourself?

A lot has changed in Prague since 1986. Like a flying girl. Back then it was a military patrol, often marching through Republic Square, today it’s the name of a tram. Come and see the streets of Prague thirty-six years ago and judge for yourself: is it the same or different?

At the time, I was walking around the center of Prague with a Kiev IV film camera hanging around my neck and taking pictures. Camelots of Večerná Prague and lot sellers – old men whose tattered coats spoke of a poverty that did not officially exist at the time. Children playing on the piazzetta of the National Theatre. Soviet officers, observing the astronomical clock as if it belonged to them. People hurrying to work, who used various styles to overcome the railings on Vodičková street.

When I look at those pictures today, I feel that Prague has changed. At least the Soviets aren’t here anymore. No one jumps over the railing in Vodičkov any more. But look at the photos and judge for yourself. Are we the same or different than back then?

And if you recognize yourself or anyone else in the photos, please let me know. I am still interested in the stories of the people I photographed back then.
