The WhatsApp application will be suspended from working on smartphones running operating systems older than Android 4.0.3 and iOS 9, starting January 1, 2021.
The chat application will not be compatible with old phones, which means that users will need to update to a newer operating system in order to continue using “WhatsApp”.
This step is a result of the company’s approach to getting rid of old devices that run with old operating systems and are not compatible with the latest security updates for the chat application. Last year, WhatsApp became incompatible with smartphones running iOS 8 or Older than that and Android phones with version 2.3.7 or earlier.
Here is a list of smartphones that will not support “WhatsApp” by the end of that year:
1- Android phones that will not be able to use WhatsApp:
Are phones that do not run Android 4.0.3 and access to “WhatsApp” will be lost, and these models include LG Optimus Black, HTC Desire, Samsung Galaxy S2 and Motorola Droid Razr, among other models that were launched around 2012.
However, some users may continue to use WhatsApp on their old smartphones, as their operating systems have received a patch with some update, however for others, the only option is to get rid of the old phone and buy a new smartphone. Absolutely not being able to upgrade their phone to a newer OS version.
2- iPhones that will lose access to WhatsApp in 2021:
IPhone phones older than the iPhone 4 will not be able to run the WhatsApp application, as of next year, so users will require iOS 9 or at least a later version in order to continue using the chat application, and if you are wondering about these devices, the list includes iPhone 4S IPhone 5S, iPhone 5, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6, iPhone 7 series, iPhone 6, iPhone 8 series, iPhone X, iPhone XS series, Phone X, iPhone SE 2020 and latest iPhone 12 lineup, iPhone 11 series.
