“Sir, you are not allowed on the plane. There are already too many people on it.” A Brazilian man was told this when he wanted to board a plane at Cascavel airport on Friday. The fact that he was still able to tell his story to the Brazilian channel Globo already shows what happened next: the man did not get on the plane, which crashed on Friday afternoon, killing the 61 a person on board.
“I even applied pressure, you know. Sir, put me on that plane, I have to goI said. But he said it was not possible and that they would put me on another flight,” said the relieved man. So when they realized their mistake and went to the correct gate, the plane was already full. Another man also tells how he tried to convince the worker to let him on board. “I got here at 9.40am and went to the counter of the wrong company, but it was closed. So I stayed there. No one came. When I was able to speak to someone, they said I could no longer board. That man saved my life. He did his job.”
The 57 passengers who got on board, like the 4 crew members, did not survive the accident. So the president of Brazil has announced three days of national mourning.
