There are flood and danger reports from the following motorway sections, among others:
According to the ADAC, the situation on the A61 between Mönchengladbach and Koblenz is particularly problematic. The motorway is interrupted there in several sections.
Full closure due to impending dam breach
At the Steinbachtalsperre (Euskirchen district), where there was a risk of a dam bursting, the water level was falling. But the danger is not over yet. Until experts give the all-clear, the nearby A61 at Meckenheim will therefore remain completely closed.
Many railway lines can only be used to a limited extent
The storm damage also leads to many train cancellations and delays in long-distance services of Deutsche Bahn (DB). The route Cologne – Düsseldorf – Essen – Dortmund is only partially navigable, the railway announced on Friday. There are diversions with delays and train cancellations. The Cologne – Wuppertal – Hagen – Dortmund section is currently not passable. This also applies to the Cologne – Koblenz route via Bonn Central Station.
The section Cologne – Koblenz via Bonn-Beuel on the right bank of the Rhine was, however, passable according to DB. But here there are also delays and train cancellations.
International long-distance traffic also partially interrupted
According to DB, international long-distance traffic to and from Brussels has been interrupted. The long-distance trains between Cologne and Bruxelles-Midi are canceled. The international long-distance traffic Frankfurt – Cologne – Amsterdam is running according to plan.
Most trains from the direction of Norddeich / Emden end because of the storm damage in Münster and turn there. Trains from the direction of Hanover and Paderborn end and turn around in Hamm, according to the railway. The ICE trains – Berlin – Hanover – Hamm – Düsseldorf / Cologne are only partially affected: The scheduled train separation in Hamm is no longer applicable, the trains continue with both train sections to Düsseldorf and Cologne. They are canceled on the section via Hagen and Wuppertal.
Avoid NRW as far as possible
Deutsche Bahn recommends that travelers postpone train journeys to and from North Rhine-Westphalia as far as possible. All long-distance tickets already booked for routes affected by the storm remain valid. Deutsche Bahn provides information on blocked routes in regional traffic on its website.
