As a fan of all kinds of pop culture, I have to say that so far, 2022 has not disappointed one bit. We get a lot of phenomenal items in literally every industry that is part of it. Over the past six months, many excellent series have appeared on SVOD platforms, a lot of high-profile cinema premieres, a lot of comics, manga and anime, and of course interesting video games.
And it is the latter that I would like to focus on in this text. Although of course we are still waiting for the current generation to fully start off the hoof and allowed us to have full-time fun with the possibilities offered by the latest equipment, it cannot be denied that there is a lot of productions that are simply worth checking out in the world. There is no question of boredom and probably most of you will agree with me.
Today I would like to introduce you to ten games that debuted from January to Juneand which impressed me the most. It will be a real mix of smaller titles and slightly larger ones that took me the most time and gave me the most fun while interacting with them. Without unnecessary extension – let’s go to the list, and I encourage you to share your favorite games from previous releases in 2022!
Uncharted: The Legacy of Thieves Collection
Let’s start with the production from January, which – in fact – was a refreshment of two versions of PlayStation 4. It did not add anything new, it did not turn out to be a revolution, but for me it was a great reminder of the adventures that I love. What’s more, the ability to fire everything in excellent fluidity, which was sometimes missing from the originals years ago, was almost a “game changer”. If you haven’t played, it’s worth checking out. The passage of years has been effectively masked.
Pokemon Legends: Arceus
The next item – also from the very beginning of this year – is an interesting spin-off of the series about Pokemon. The first time we got what we had been asking for a long time. The creators offered us an open world that fans have been demanding over the years. And although it did not turn out perfectly, and some elements were definitely not what they might have appeared before the launch, it still made a really good production. I had a lot of fun.
Horizon Forbidden West
The sequel to Aloy’s adventures was one of the most anticipated in recent years – the sequel was to not only jump over the bar suspended by its predecessor, but also significantly jump over it. Managed to? Well, in my opinion, yes. Graphically, it is the highest shelf, in terms of the plot, it was sometimes fine, but the construction of the world and its design definitely compensated for everything. You can get lost in all of this.
Sifu
I had a bittersweet relationship with this game from the very beginning. I cannot underestimate how brilliantly the creators managed to design everything here – indeed, I wrote a bit about it in my review (you can find it here). And even the difficulty level (the bitter part) was not able to deter me from repeated attempts at a modern walking brawl. Great fun and something definitely fresh. It is worth a try.
Shadow Warrior 3
There is also a representative of our Polish development scene – the third installment of Shadow Warrior. I was expecting beating up, fast-paced action and great humor (which the Flying Wild Hogs are known for), but… I didn’t believe that it would all be turned up to the maximum. They surpassed my expectations and built a trust that now remains to be nurtured. Great title, hopefully more of these.
WWE 2K22
After a one-year break, which 2K needed to charge the battery and air out their heads, they returned with another installment of games licensed by the most popular wrestling organization in the world. And it turned out that sometimes you have to take a step back to take two steps forward. The quality of the production refers to the heyday of the series and gave me exactly as much fun as the scenes from 10 years ago. I had fun in March and I am still having fun there.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
My candidate for GOTY this year and there is no exaggeration in it. My partner and I went through it one hundred percent and it was definitely a quality time. And while the final boss was a pain, the final satisfaction in doing absolutely everything in the game was worth a few ugly words thrown into the air. Now just count on the DLC, because there are still quite a few items that can be added there. Did you play?
LEGO: Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
If we get more LEGO games, let them look like this. A great adventure, a great option to refresh your Star Wars story, and just a good game. And the possibility of checking everything in cooperation added a lot of fun here. I am sure that most of you, Dear Readers, have had the opportunity to play. And you certainly do not regret it.
Kangaroo Kao
Probably a non-obvious choice, as the marks heralded a rather mediocre work, but … Kao Kangaroo is Kao Kangaroo. For me, it is what Crash and Mario do for many older people. The greatest childhood memory and the reason for my love for 3D platform games. I have a soft spot for him. Sure, it’s not a perfect production and there is undoubtedly a lot to improve there, but I will not deny that I had a lot of fun after all.
Minecraft: The Wild Update
At the end, it may be a somewhat stretched option, as this is “only” an update, but I’ve spent so much time in it in recent weeks that I couldn’t help but mention it here. Long hours of fun with the new update to Minecraft meant that it simply qualifies for this statement. Another big step towards the cult position from Mojang studio and again very positive.
