Harianjogja.com, JOGJA – Most people adjust their diet to maintain weight. Some others to maintain healthy skin. Especially for people who have allergies and sensitive skin, choosing the right foods into their skin care.
In fact, whatever you eat can affect the condition of your skin. So, if you want to have healthy skin, you should avoid the following foods.
Foods That Can Damage the Skin
In fact, there have been many warnings about the negative effects of eating some of the following foods. Well, here are the foods that have been proven to damage the skin, as quoted from the Halodoc page, Saturday (8/1/2022):
1. High fat foods
High-fat meats, fast food, and preservatives all contain saturated fat and trans fat. Well, this high fat content can trigger insulin production. Rising insulin automatically triggers hormones that cause acne.
It’s okay to eat these foods, as long as they are not too frequent and within reasonable limits. However, it is best to look for other food alternatives. You can choose the tenderloin section or switch to the chicken breast. Fish that is high in omega 3 can also be the best protein choice. When cooking, use vegetable oils such as corn oil or canola oil.
2. High glycemic index foods
High glycemic foods, such as white bread and potatoes, can also damage your skin. Well, these foods not only cause acne, but are also associated with premature aging. The sugar content in these foods can trigger the glycation process, in which sugar molecules attach to collagen in the skin.
This process then causes the collagen to harden and break down, triggering wrinkles. High glycemic foods also cause the body to produce more insulin. When the body has excess insulin, it can stimulate the production of androgen hormones and sebum in the skin, which can cause acne.
3. Milk and its derivatives
If this one food you must have often heard. Cow’s milk was able to increase insulin levels and some brands of cow’s milk contain growth hormone. Well, an increase in insulin will increase circulating levels of cortisol which binds to the sebaceous glands, thereby triggering the production of sebum.
Not only cow’s milk, its derivative products also provide the same effect. However, milk is a major source of calcium and vitamin D, which are needed for bone health. So, if you need to consume milk, there are some tips you can do:
– If your face is clean after stopping dairy products, see if you get little or no acne after drinking a little milk. Some people can drink a little milk and stay acne free.
– Try different types of dairy products. Yogurt without added sweeteners or milk from other animals such as goat, which may be more tolerable for the skin.
– Replace the calcium intake that you usually get from dairy products by eating other foods. Examples include dark leafy vegetables, such as kale, mustard greens and broccoli.
4. Alcoholic drinks
Alcohol clearly has a negative effect on health. Besides being able to affect liver function, this one drink can also damage the skin. Alcohol is a diuretic, which means it can remove fluids from the body. Lack of fluid certainly reduces skin moisture. As a result, dry skin creates fine lines and wrinkles. This condition certainly makes you look older.
5. Chocolate
The carbohydrate content in chocolate goes through the same metabolic processes as sugar. This means that these carbohydrates can cause wrinkles by damaging the collagen in the skin. The high sugar content often found in candy and chocolate can increase sebum production and trigger the body’s inflammatory response.
Those are some types of foods that can have a negative impact on the skin. The thing that needs to be emphasized is that the foods above are indeed healthy, but if consumed in excess, they can certainly cause problems, one of which is skin problems.
