The Guilty Pleasure Festival was on the agenda in Amsterdam this weekend. “It is clear that the press conference after 1.5 years of pent-up urgency brought the disappointment of the century.” writes the organization on Facebook. “And after a long wait, fighting hard and planning and building our baby with a lot of passion and love, that feels indescribably painful.”
“I’m really sick of it,” says the organizer of the Secret Forest Festival, which would take place tomorrow in the Groningen Stadskanaal. 46 artists would perform on five stages at the festival. “We’ve canceled them all,” the organizer said on Facebook in a statement video at the constructed main stage. “Seventy square meters of LED lighting have just been installed, but the assignment is very simple: tear it down. We just have to deal with it.”
‘Impossible situation’
The new measures apply in any case until 13 August. That also means a lot of uncertainty for the festivals right after that date. “An impossible situation”, says Lowlands, for example Twitter. The festival is planned from 20 to 22 August, just under a week after a new cabinet decision.
“That is far too short and costs a lot of money. They radiate something of: ‘you just see how you solve it'”, writes lowlands. The festival emphasizes that artists keep their agendas free and suppliers make their personnel and material available. “They just let the sector dangle. The cabinet has been completely disconnected from reality.”
