Jean-Michel Esnault, Simone Baire and Yves Bataille have been volunteers for decades within the ASPTT. This Saturday, November 6, they once again responded and are participating in the organization of the Nocturne under the lights of Chartres.

Lovers of hiking and keen on human contact. This is how Jean Michel Esnault became in 1985 responsible for the ASPTT hiking section for more than 30 years. Today, the association still counts him among its volunteers. Not without a touch of nostalgia, the former multimedia salesperson remembers:

“When I started there were two hikes in the year. Today there are about a hundred! “
–
This year, Jean-Michel took care of tracing the routes. “You have to vary from year to year. All routes must fit into each other. This year we made the necessary changes to prioritize the city’s illuminations, while remaining under the Nocturne label. “
Jean-Michel will be present tomorrow in the streets of Chartres, along with the 60 signalers, to guide and secure the walkers, since: “there are always some who get lost in chatting. “
After more than 30 years of volunteering at the head of the hiking section, Jean-Michel admits: “It is an association very well established in the local territory. Since then, we have created an atmosphere and forged links. You have to know how to give in order to receive and today, we are lucky to be able to count on our lifelong volunteers for the organization. They are the ones who make such a mobilization successful. “
Simone Baire, volunteer for 22 years, will be at the supply stand at the Odyssey
Simone Baire, in the center, regularly participates in the events organized by the ASPTT
Tomorrow and for the eighth consecutive year, Simone Baire will be at the supply stand at the Odyssey for the 15 and 20 km routes, on the occasion of the Nocturne de Chartres en Lumières.
“We will install supplies at the end of the afternoon. We hope there will be people, even more than in previous years! “. For the retired shopkeeper, the events are the rendezvous not to be missed. “I was at the Foulées de la Cathédrale three weeks ago. I’m back for the mythical Nocturne, this time in November and for the first time under the lights of Chartres! “.

At 80, the retiree who “still has ideas in her head”, says she is happy to share moments of conviviality with the other volunteers. “It’s important to me, I’m very kind. And then it allows you to move. I discovered new hiking trails in Eure-et-Loir, but also in France. I was even able to go to Senegal for a week, thanks to the association. “
For Simone, the key words are “help and give. I am always looking for new encounters ”. This is what she does by being part of the ASPTT. “For me, it is above all to combine my two passions: that of helping others, and meeting hiking enthusiasts. “
And that’s what she’s been doing for over 22 years. The association was for her, her “breath of fresh air”. The opportunity then to create links with others, and to have a “group dynamism”, when she had just lost her husband. For her, “ASPTT was my best therapy”.
Yves Bataille, official mulled wine maker since 2015
Yves, Bernard and Eric from ASPTT prepare the mulled wine
“Mulled wine, I have taken care of it at least since 2015,” laughs Yves Bataille, a volunteer for over 15 years.
At 69 years old, the retiree still appreciates meeting his colleagues, who have become his friends, during events: “being a volunteer at the ASPTT is above all being part of a big family”. Preparing, cooking and serving mulled wine is what appeals to this avid hiker and former professional cook. “I can do that warms hearts!” ” He adds :
And then it makes me so happy to touch up the bowl a little.

Yves also recalls how important it is to have links with the outside world and to preserve human contact, marred by the epidemic. “As a retiree, we need to be in this type of association. Otherwise, we die ”. Yves is eager to meet the walkers of tomorrow. not
