Time is flying by. You can see this not only in the receding hairline or the gray temples, but also in the cars that will soon be returning from the rental. Interestingly, not so long ago the whole of Holland had one Tesla model 3 bought, but that was five years ago.
That Model 3 is going to be pretty cheap second-hand, but there are a number of other electric cars from that era. They may not have been as popular, but electric cars will also be cheap in 2025.
More second-hand electric cars on the market
The reason why the Model 3 could be attractive is simple. The Tesla Model 3 has some strong assets: lots of power, decent range, room for four. It’s just a complete car. Other EVs that come on the second-hand market will also be cheaper.
That’s why we looked at electric cars that could suddenly be very interesting in terms of price from now on. So they are not Tesla Model 3 competitors, but electric cars that will be cheaper from 2025, just like the Model 3.
BMW i3S
Of course you can do it BMW i3 seen as the successor to the Audi A2. As used cars they were always quite expensive, because you can drive them dirt cheap. Now that Teslas are arriving with better specifications for less money, the i3s will continue to fall.
The great thing is that you can even get the face lift model. Tip: the i3S with a 120Ah battery is the best buy. They are currently still 20,000 euros, but they will go down a lot. Normal i3s older than 10k are expected to cost. The low weight of 1,265 kilos is also pleasing.
Hyundai Ioniq Electric
As Hyundai Ioniq is an obvious Toyota Prius copy that went beyond the Japanese example in technical terms. The Ioniq was available as a hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric version. It’s not really a sexy car, but you can go out with four people.
The range is just enough for most people, the battery is not very big. The advantage of this is that the weight is not too bad at 1,502 kilos. It just doesn’t look that exciting, but this electric car might become cheap in 2025.
Jaguar I-Pace
This must be very cheap. The Jaguar I-Pace it was once a breakthrough car with the Car of the Year award. The big disadvantage is loading: it is not very fast. Really slow. They are very pleasant to drive and the range is decent too.
In terms of looks, it’s still a modern car, although it’s not really a Jaguar archetype. This electric car will also be very cheap in 2025. Prices are already below 20 grand, but that will probably go down next year.
Renault Zoe
At the time, Renault was one of the first brands with a small electric car. The Renault Zoe it’s a good Clio-sized hatchback. You can already get the Zoe for low prices, but we recommend you keep an eye on the R110.
Soon it will be five years old and will have more power and range than the older types. The interior has also been improved. In terms of prices, the R110 is now just under 10,000 euros, so it will keep falling for a while. Please note: that battery is a rental item.
Audi e-tron quattro
As Audi e-tron is the perfect electric car for people who don’t like electric cars. It’s just a big crossover from Audi. Yes, the weight is very high (2,370 kilos) and the range of the 50 model is very limited, but this makes it interesting from a price point of view.
Prices now start at 25,000 euros, but that could easily drop below 20 grand. If you only drive short distances, this is an excellent car. Charging is also very fast.
Opel Ampera-E
As Opel Ampera-E often forgotten. Even when it was still new. But this could be a major deal soon. It’s a compact crossover that still looks fresh. From a technical point of view it was not surprising, the WLTP range is around 380 kilometers.
In terms of prices, it will be very interesting, because they are now available for less than 14 grand. If the second hand Model 3s become available, the price could drop below 10k. Then you have a great family car. The weight of 1,602 kilos is relatively not too bad.
Be e-Niro
The best electric car you can buy second-hand in 2025, perhaps. The Be e-Niro is a crossover that has a long range (455 kilometers) with a 65 kWh battery. It won’t be exciting on board this car, but you have a compact crossover that will do nothing wrong.
The weight of 1,702 kilos is not very low, but you have a big battery. The cheapest Kia e-Niro is now around 17,500 euros, so they will probably be significantly less than 15 grand after the New Year.
