These drinks are poison to the heart – 2024-05-13 02:07:34

Unhealthy drinking choices can adversely affect different parts of the body.

These everyday drinks can have bad effects on different parts of the body. Terveystalo nutritionist Jan Verho tells you which drinks are poison for the brain or intestines, for example.

Brain

Alcohol is bad for the brain for many reasons.

– The list would be incredibly long, but heavy alcohol consumption affects, for example, the structure of the brain and blood circulation. Almost all acute problems with alcohol use affect behavior, says Verho.

– In my work as a nutritionist, I often encounter the fact that clients’ sleep quality deteriorates as a result of alcohol consumption. Poor sleeping, on the other hand, affects health overall, making it worse.

According to Verho, drinking alcohol could be mentioned as a cause of harm in every point.

Caffeine also affects sleep by weakening it.

– If you drink an awful lot of coffee or other caffeinated drinks, yes, you can get a headache during that time, although sometimes you drink coffee for a headache. Anxiety is also a common symptom that can follow large amounts of caffeine in sensitive people.

Suu

Sugary and acidic drinks such as juices and smoothies are bad for teeth due to erosion. Erosion means the chemical dissolution of the tooth surface due to the action of acids.

Sugar also feeds caries bacteria, which leads to tooth decay.

Heart

Drinks containing animal fat, such as fatty milk and cream, are bad for the heart.

– Through cholesterol, they are harmful to the heart. Drinks contain saturated fat, the consumption of which can lead to an increase in cholesterol levels, says Verho.

Coronary artery disease is most often caused by the calcification of blood vessels caused by the accumulation of cholesterol.

Likewise, unfiltered coffee itself can raise cholesterol levels. Unfiltered coffees are coffees that are not drained through a paper filter, such as pot coffee or espresso.

– Unfiltered coffee contains compounds that accelerate the liver’s cholesterol production in the long term.

Pay

Alcohol and sugary drinks are bad for liver function.

– There is also a combination of these, i.e. the so-called lemon wines.

According to Verho, soft drinks are a big source of sugar in Western countries, as are juices.

– Alcohol use does not go evenly so that everyone uses the same amount, but excessive use accumulates among the same people.

As a result of excessive use of these, you can get a fatty liver and, at worst, fatty cirrhosis. Liver cirrhosis caused by alcohol is the most common cause of liver cancer.

Fatty liver seems to often lead to type 2 diabetes as well.

Bone

According to research, cola drinks weaken bones.

– Weakening of the bones is related to the fact that the drinks contain phosphorus, too much intake of which is bad for the bones. Bones do need phosphorus, but too much is too much. Excessive phosphorus intake is harmful to calcium and bone metabolism. It may decrease bone formation and increase bone resorption.

Stomach and intestines

For many people, coffee and tea cause heartburn.

– If you have a tendency to heartburn, you should limit drinking too much coffee and tea. Heartburn is not completely harmless, as it can damage the esophagus if it continues for a long time, says Verho.

– Carbonated drinks, such as soft drinks, on the other hand, often cause bloating and pain for people with sensitive stomachs.

Kidneys

Caffeinated drinks dehydrate the body.

– The kidneys remove fluid from the body and dehydration follows. Alcohol also does the same.

– Salt also puts a strain on the kidneys. Excessive salt intake should be avoided. For example, Vichy water contains salt. A better option is mineral water without salt.

According to Verho, the best thirst quencher is water.
