Carla Vila, 45, is an actress of Salvadoran origin, born in El Salvador, who has lived in the United States since his adolescence. In the American country she began her career as an actress and she has always been proud of her roots. For this reason she did not hesitate for a second to be part of the film “These Days”, a film directed by Junior Gonzalez, which features the performances of Billy Mayorga, Robert Asencio, Chris Delgado and Lucas Rivas.
Carla, in this interview, tells us that they have been shaping this project for several years. “It has been an arduous four-year effort, since I contacted the director and the writer… four years and a pandemic passed since the first time he contacted me,” says the actress.
It is important to note that the actors involved in this project are all Salvadorans. Carla explains that many of them had never acted before but that they were so involved in the project that it flowed wonderfully. The language that we will have in the film is “Spanglish”, a combination of English and Spanish.
“These Days” has also been accepted into two New York film festivals, one of these being the “Hamptons Film Festival” and “Chelsea Film Festival”. Regarding the importance of this fact, Vila explains to us that this is how films obtain viewing and distribution, “or interest so that a series could be developed from this, which we have been considering,” said the Salvadoran actress.
About the history
Vila, tells us that This drama presents us with the true life of Salvadorans in the United States, a country that indeed offers opportunities to everyone, but that of course also offers important challenges that we cannot ignore. Challenges that sometimes reinforce your desire to return home.
But when to return? How long to wait? How hard do you have to work to be able to be calm and be able to return home? Salvadorans abroad always have many of these questions in mind, because the terroir is always in their blood. The national anthem, “The Picón Bird, Picón” and “The Blue Hat” are songs that are recorded in the soul and that when you are away from it for so many years, they weigh a lot. Very much.
“These Days” reflects the effort of a mother to raise her child, to work and educate, to provide, learn and survive in a country that is not her own. For communicating in a language she does not know, for learning to value the new air she breathes and the new land that sustains her.
Know. Explore. Learn. In “These Days” Salvadorans will be able to see a reflection of their own existence and subsistence in a social and cultural environment completely different from that of their country of origin and the challenges that come with being an immigrant who comes to this country with the sole desire to work. and work again and again to have a decent salary to live well, to live without fear.
