Some existing Corona rules will end on Monday, May 1st. Vienna.at provides an overview of the rules here.
The obligation to wear masks, which lasted until recently, is also history in vulnerable areas such as hospitals, old people’s and nursing homes and in doctor’s offices. The so-called risk group exemption is also expiring. At the end of June, the obligation to report a corona disease will also be a thing of the past.
From May 1st, the last Corona rules will end in Austria
Despite the end of the mask requirement, doctors can still insist that patients and accompanying persons wear an FFP2 mask in the surgery. This could be the case, for example, if people with weak health need to be protected or patients come into the practice with symptoms such as a cough or runny nose, the Medical Association clarified.
End of the Corona measures: plan decided in February
The government already decided on the timetable for the end of the Corona measures in the Council of Ministers on February 1st. “The pandemic is going, the virus stays, and we will be able to deal with it,” said Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) at the time.
Mask requirement and exemption of risk groups ends
In addition to the end of the masks, the so-called risk group exemption ends – the corona-related exemption regulation for risk groups. This offered protection to those people who had to fear an increased risk of Covid-19 disease due to previous illnesses. So far, the employer has reimbursed 100 percent of the costs for the leave of absence.
From July 1st, there will no longer be an obligation to report corona diseases
Before the summer holidays – on July 1st – SARS-CoV-2 will no longer be a notifiable disease. The traffic restrictions that are still in force for people who have tested positive will then also end. Although infected people do not currently have to be quarantined, they are obliged to wear an FFP2 mask indoors and outdoors when in close contact with other people.
