MImproved higher education does not necessarily rhyme with democratization. If, between 1985 and 2000, the number of students doubled, the most disadvantaged social categories continue to shine by their meager participation in long higher education. Of the 200,000 young people who obtain a vocational baccalaureate each year, only 7.6% go on to long-term higher education (1) and almost none to have access to the big schools.
