These candidates from Freiburg and the surrounding area want to join the state parliament – Freiburg

In the state elections, there are three direct mandates to be won around Freiburg, because the incumbent MPs make room for new candidates.

The people of Baden-Württemberg will elect a new state parliament next March. It should be exciting in the constituencies in Freiburg and the surrounding area. There was a lot of movement in the field of applicants. The directly elected Green MPs Edith Sitzmann (constituency 47) and Bärbl Mielich (constituency 48) are no longer running. Reinhold Pix, who was last able to get the direct mandate in constituency 46, also changes to constituency 48. There will therefore be three new winners in the election. Almost all of the parties have nominated their candidates.

Constituency 46 – Freiburg I

The victory of the Greens still hurts the CDU. It is precisely this constituency, in which the respective CDU candidate has been able to win a majority for decades, that the Conservatives want to win back. In terms of shape, it is a very demanding constituency in the area of tension between the big city and rural region. The incumbent member of the state parliament Reinhold Pix (Greens) has already made room and is running in the constituency of Breisgau (48). In his place, Daniela Evers, who works as a lawyer and sits on the municipal council of Titisee-Neustadt for the Greens, enters the race. She is challenged by the publisher Manuel Herder (CDU). He wanted to swap his publishing life in order to be able to work in the state parliament in the future, said the Buchenbacher at the nomination. The field of applicants is completed by the social worker Jennifer Sühr (SPD), who lives in the Dreisamtal, and Pascal Blank (left), who is studying in Freiburg. Like the AfD, the FDP had to postpone its nomination event for an indefinite period due to the corona. However, Marianne Schäfer has announced a double candidacy for the Liberals. She was nominated for the FDP in constituency 47.

Constituency 47 – Freiburg II

Finance Minister Edith Sitzmann leaves a large gap in constituency 47, which includes the west of Freiburg and the surrounding communities of Schallstadt, Gottenheim, Umkirch and March. She had won the mandate four years ago by a wide margin. Since she no longer competes, Freiburg city councilor Nadyne Saint-Cast is now throwing her hat into the race. The 41-year-old from Freiburg has to defend her mandate against Gabi Rolland, member of the SPD state parliament, who won just under 14 percent of the votes in 2016, but can look back on some experience in state politics. Arndt Michael is a university lecturer for the CDU who describes himself as “conservative-liberal” and sees his focus not only on the economy but also primarily on ecology, where he wants to set his own accents for the conservatives. In addition, there are two younger candidates, Imke Pirch and Marianne Schäfer. The health and nurse and unionist Pirch stands for the left and sees her focus on health and employment policy. The electrical engineer Schäfer is the top candidate of the FDP and focuses on the digitization of schools, which has so far been overslept. A candidate is still pending at the AfD.

Constituency 48 – Breisgau
The State Secretary in the Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration, Bärbl Mielich (Greens), is no longer running in her constituency. The organic winemaker Reinhold Pix is now there for the Greens. He will fight for the direct mandate with Patrick Rapp (CDU). In the last election in 2016, Rapp entered the state parliament via the CDU state list. District councilor and district chairwoman Birte Könnecke stands for the SPD. Martina Böswald was nominated for the AfD, as announced by the chairwoman of the AfD district association Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. The IT entrepreneur Helge Kaltenbach (FDP) and District Councilor Rolf Seifert (left) complete the field of applicants in the Breisgau constituency.
