At just 19, Rashed Al-Swaisat is the last boxer to die after stepping into the ring. The young man received help from the doctors in the ring and was quickly transferred to a hospital center. He underwent emergency brain surgery, but sadly died 10 days later.
Patrick Day – October 12, 2019
American Patrick Day was knocked out three times during his clash against compatriot Charles Conwell. The third time, his head hit the ground hard as he fell. Immediately sent to a hospital, Day suffered from seizures before falling into a coma. He then went under the knife and died of what was described as traumatic brain injury.
Boris Stanchov – September 21, 2019
Initially, it was reported that boxer Isus Velichkov died in the ring after suffering a heart attack during his clash against Albanian and local favorite Ardit Murja. However, the investigation revealed that it was rather the Bulgarian Boris Stanchov who had died. The latter had been using his cousin’s license (Velichkov) to box for more than a year, as well as his medical file.
Hugo Alfredo Santillan – 25 juillet 2019
Defeated less than a month earlier in Germany, Hugo Alfredo Santillan was banned from fighting until July 30, as a preventive measure. Despite his coach’s recommendations, the Argentine decided to get back into the ring earlier and paid for it with his life. As the official announced a draw, Santillan passed out. He was then admitted to the hospital. His brain had swelled, his kidneys had failed, and he eventually succumbed to a heart attack.
Tim Hague – June 16, 2017
Canadian mixed martial arts veteran Tim Hague made the jump to professional boxing in 2016. In his fourth career duel, he was dominated and repeatedly punched in the head by the mighty Adam. Braidwood. The fight between the two heavyweights was stopped in the second round at the Shaw Conference Center in Edmonton. Hague was taken to hospital where he died after being in a long coma. He was 34 years old.
