These are the worst diets for health and the environment

According to a new scientific study, the findings of which have been published in the journal The American Journal of Clinical Nutritionnot all diets are equal in terms of their nutritional quality and their environmental impact.

Much to the amazement of some, the ketogenic and paleolithic diets scored lowest in overall nutritional quality, due to their low vitamin levels. The first consists in favoring lipids very largely in your diet, leaving room for some proteins and especially very few carbohydrates. The second encourages people to eat more protein, more plants, more omega-3s and fewer carbohydrates.

Very high carbon emissions

At the same time, these two diets achieved the highest results in terms of carbon emissions. According to their conclusions, the first would generate nearly 3 kilos of carbon dioxide for 1000 calories consumed against 2.6 kilos for the second. Conversely, the vegan diet is the one that would have the least impact on the climate, generating 0.7 kilos of carbon dioxide for every 1,000 calories consumed.

“Diets that exclude the consumption of all animal products have a lower carbon footprint than other popular diets. Climate change is arguably one of the most pressing issues of our time, and many people want to switch on a diet excluding the consumption of all products of animal origin”explained in a press release Diego Rose, the author of the research, while explaining that this option would be the healthiest. “Our research also shows that there is a way to improve your health and your footprint without giving up meat entirely”he concluded.
