The World Photography Organization has announced the winners of the categories and images preselected in the Sony World Photography Awards 2022 open competitionwhich recognizes the best individual photos of 2021.
More than 170,000 images were submitted to this year’s competition, and more than a hundred photographers from around the world were shortlisted, in addition to the ten category winners.
Each winner receives a Sony digital imaging kit and go to compete for the prestigious title of Open Photographer of the Year and a prize of $5,000 (about 4,521 euros).
The overall winner of the contest will be announced on April 12 and the selected photographs of the winners and shortlisted will exhibit as part of the Sony World Photography Awards at Somerset House (London), from April 13 to May 2, 2022.
This prestigious international competition for free participation, which celebrates its 15th editionis a global voice for contemporary photography spanning a wide variety of photographic styles and themes, from wildlife and natural landscapes to surreal street photography.

As can be seen from many images on this year’s shortlist, the Black and white photography holds a special place in the hearts of many photographers.. The simplicity of black and white has the power to distill the content of an image and draw the viewer’s attention to the subject.”
