Because of differences! National coach Hansi Flick relies on Leroy Sané at the DFB.
Some had even expected a non-nomination as a reminder for the ailing Bayern star, but Flick did not let Sane fall. He built it up. With one-on-one conversations, praise, start-ups – and Sane paid it back with performance. The offensive player scored twice, worked well defensively and even unpacked the tackle. “The boy is up for football,” said teammate Joshua Kimmich: “I think he will build on that with us at FC Bayern.”

Thilo Kehrer
The defense all-rounder got the first special praise from Flick. “I can pick one out too,” said the national coach after the Iceland game: “Thilo Kehrer. He can be used flexibly, in top shape, very self-confident. ”This is no coincidence, after all, the professional trains at Paris St. Germain every day with world-class footballers such as Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Leon Goretzka
Under Joachim Löw, the midfielder often shuttled between the starting line-up and the bench. But Goretzka is set for Flick – especially after the first three games. He harmonizes wonderfully with his buddy Joshua Kimmich and with his dynamic nature perfectly embodies the style of play that Flick wants to see in the DFB team. The eloquent Goretzka also represents the DFB in an exemplary manner off the pitch.
Timo Werner
The striker, who was hit by Belgian Romelu Lukaku at the Champions League winner Chelsea FC, was the only attacking man to play the full distance in all three games – and he scored one goal each. The fact that he did not always act like a classic center forward in the penalty area and also missed some big chances, Flick preferred not to hang too high. Probably also because he doesn’t have a better nine. “We need him in the box because he is simply dangerous there,” said the national coach.

Losers under flick
Ridle Baku
The U21 European champion had high hopes for a breakthrough in the A team after starting as a right-back against Liechtenstein. But after that, the Wolfsburg player didn’t play a minute, and Flick didn’t even take him to Iceland. “It wasn’t the performance,” said Flick. But on the right are Jonas Hofmann, Thilo Kehrer and Lukas Klostermann in front of Baku.
Florian Neuhaus
The Mönchengladbach player left without a single minute of play, and at the start against Liechtenstein he didn’t even make it into the squad. Under Joachim Löw, the technically strong midfielder was close to the starting line-up, with Flick he is a long way off, although Toni Kroos’ resignation has left a place free.
