These Are the Vaccines Your Kids Will Need for Back to School in the Bay – NBC Bay Area

School districts across the Bay will require children in preschool through high school to have a series of state-mandated immunizations before they return to school.

School authorities explained that the only vaccine that will not be required is that of COVID-19, however, they recommend that parents administer it to children due to the increase in cases of the deadly virus that is currently registered.

WHAT ARE THE IMMUNIZATIONS REQUIRED BY SCHOOL DISTRICTS

  • Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis (DTaP, DTP, Tdap, or Td), 5 doses (4 OK doses if one was given on or after the 4th birthday, 3 OK doses if one was given on or after the 7th birthday. For Students 7th-12th grade, at least one dose of pertussis vaccine is required on or after the 7th birthday)
  • Polio (OPV or IPV): 4 doses (3 doses are okay if one is on or after the 4th birthday)
  • Hepatitis B: 3 doses (not required for 7th grade entry)
  • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR): 2 doses, both given on or after the 1st birthday
  • Varicela (chickenpox) – 2 dosis

School superintendents called on parents to comply with these demands because, according to reports from Unicef and the World Health Organization, around 25 million infants in the world did not receive the corresponding vaccines last year. .

Likewise, school authorities indicated that on Thursday they expect to receive an update on the health protocols for schools by the Department of Health.

They will also continue to offer virtual classes for families who do not feel safe sending their children to schools, however, the cases will have to be evaluated by each school district.
