Ride

The Swiss riders must show a tremendous reaction. After the highly decorated Swiss team with Steve Guerdat, Martin Fuchs and Pius Schwizer disappointingly missed the team final, the individual jumping offers them their next chance for a medal. Guerdat (4th place in the world rankings) and Fuchs (8th place in the world rankings) in particular have long been good enough to be considered serious medal candidates. But how well have they digested the disappointment from the team qualification?

athletics

It is extremely difficult for Switzerland to win medals at Olympic level in athletics. But there are two realistic chances: Simon Ehammer in the long jump and Angelica Moser in the pole vault.

Simon Ehammer didn’t shine in yesterday’s qualification with a distance of 8.09, but still managed to qualify for Wednesday’s final with ease. The Appenzell native had to give up his favorite discipline, the decathlon, because the Olympic program hardly allows for both – and because he reckons he has a better chance of winning a medal in the long jump. Ehammer’s best performance this year is 8.41 meters. Only the Greek Miltiadis Tendoglou jumped further this year.

Angelica Moser is better than ever. This year, the 26-year-old not only celebrated her first victory in the Diamond League, she also became European champion and set a new Swiss record. At the last meeting in Monaco, she cleared the 4.88-meter mark. Only the British athlete Molly Caudery (4.92 meters) jumped higher this year. The competition is tough, but Moser has a good chance of winning a medal if she is at her best.

Ditaji Kambundji is probably only an outsider’s chance in the 100 m hurdles – despite winning the Diamond League and taking silver at the European Championships this year. The competition at the Olympic Games is simply a lot stronger. Kambundji is ranked 12th in the annual rankings.

When?

Tuesday, from 10.40 a.m.: Pole vault women, qualification
Wednesday, from 10.15 a.m.: 100 m hurdles women, heats
Wednesday, from 7 p.m.: Pole Vault Women, Final

Cross-Cross

The sport is an Olympic sport for the first time and has immediately captivated spectators. No wonder: a sport like ski cross on the water. Unlike in canoe slalom, the athletes are not only allowed to touch the gates, but can actually push them out of the way. Switzerland has the experienced Martin Dougoud and the European champion Alena Marx in the quarter-finals.

Beach volleyball

The two Swiss duos in Paris are impressive. Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner as well as Esmée Böbner and Zoé Vergé-Dépré first survived the group phase undefeated and then moved into the quarter-finals with ease. If they can also celebrate two more victories there, then a Swiss medal is already assured.

Thursday, from 5 p.m.: Semifinals
Friday, 9pm: Bronze game
Friday, 10.30 p.m.: Final

Sailing

With two solid races on Sunday (7th and 8th place), ILCA-6 sailor Maud Jayet improved her already good starting position even further and is in 3rd place. “I may have lost one or two places, but at the moment everything is very close and I didn’t want to risk too much,” analyzed the Genevan. “The conditions were challenging again and I think tomorrow it will be about not making any big mistakes.”

The only one who has made it through so far with practically no mistakes is the leader, Marit Bouwmeester. The Dutchwoman, who has already won gold, silver and bronze at the Olympic Games, is 26 points ahead. She can secure the gold medal early on Monday. There are still two races left in the program before the medal race for the top 10.

Outsider chances

Who knows how the ball will roll in the women’s golf tournament in which Albane Valenzuela and Morgane Métraux are taking part. The two are outsiders in a top-class field of participants, but perhaps they will win the tournament of their lives in Paris of all places.

When? The decision will be made on Saturday (from 9 a.m.).

With Anna Jurt, Switzerland has the newly crowned vice-European champion in the modern pentathlon at the start in Paris. She also became U19 world champion in 2021. If the 22-year-old exceeds her own expectations in Paris, she can set her sights on the medals.

When? The decision will be made on Sunday (from 11 a.m.).

At 33, Martin Dougoud is ready for his first Olympic success. The Genevan, who came third in the World Championships, is one of the favorites in the new kayak cross discipline. He fought his way confidently into the quarterfinals – but of course it gets more difficult with each round.
