(CRHoy.com).-The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) apply a fourth dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, after the approval of the National Commission of Vaccination and Epidemiology (CNVE).
This will be the second reinforcement to be placed in the country in the fight against the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
However, this fourth injection is not indicated for the entire population, as is the case with the first 3 vaccines.
The CNVE agreed to start protection with this biological, in the following people:
- Adults 50 years and older.
- People over 12 years of age with suppressed immune systems.
For Luis Rosero, demographer and researcher, this was a pending issue with immunocompromised people who have had no effect from the vaccine.
“For example, the cancer patients who are receiving chemotherapy; the transplanted receiving anti-rejection medications; people with rheumatoid arthritis, that they also receive complicated medications, because they are people who are still at risk and that if they get infected there is a very high probability that they will end up badly, in the hospital or die, ”he commented.
Of course, the Ministry of Health confirmed that this injection will not be mandatory in any casewhile the CCSS will announce in the coming days vaccination logistics in health establishments.
