Many things are becoming scarce: spare parts, individual foods, special medicines. And now it hits a substance of which there should actually be enough: blood.
The German Red Cross (DRK) speaks of a critical supply situation and calls for blood donations. There are various reasons for the current bottleneck.
During the corona pandemic, the number of donors has generally decreased, then it’s vacation time, many donors are simply not there. In addition, the need for blood supplies has increased as many hospitals are catching up on surgeries that were postponed during the peak of the pandemic.
