At the game in Rostock We gave these grades to the Fortuna pros
Hansa Rostock against Fortuna Düsseldorf – this time with the 5:2 for the Rhinelanders a clear thing. But that didn’t seem certain before kick-off. Mainly because of a statistic…
… because Fortuna had not yet won a league game with the Hanseatic city before the clash this Sunday.
Fortuna was only able to celebrate a 3-0 win in the 2016/17 DFB Cup match in the first round. Two goalscorer then:
Marcel Sobottka, but of all people, he was missing this time because of his yellow card suspension.
Another tricky task for Fortuna’s coach Daniel Thioune, especially since the…
…had taken a personal mortgage with him to Rostock:
He too had never won in Rostock as a coach.
By the way, his counterpart hasn’t been in the business that long:
Patrick Glöckner only had on November 7th…
…replaced the hapless Jens Härtel as head coach of FC Hansa.
But now to the grades we gave Fortuna’s pros for the game. As always, let’s start with:
Provided he is healthy, the goalkeeper is the undisputed number one at Fortuna.
In the 1-1 draw in the top game against Heidenheim, however, the native of Regensburg revealed some uncertainties.
Rostock, who had been harmless for a long time, were rarely able to challenge his skills. As usual, a lot involved in the build-up of the game, while being very sure of the ball. No fault of the goals conceded.
Note 3
His return to right-back after an injury break has brought some stability and, above all, dynamism to Fortuna’s game.
Especially when it comes to fighting, the 30-year-old is a role model in every game, even if not everything always works out.
First with a few lack of concentration – but who cares in the end when “Zimbo” then unpacks such a wonderful volley as the one that made it 0:3? Perhaps his best hit in Fortuna dress, then he even put together his very first brace.
Note 2
The captain is currently in talks with the sporting director. Topic: contract extension.
In the past few weeks, however, his performance has been a bit inconsistent, he lacked consistency – but this applies to many of his colleagues.
A shaky pass in the game build-up, but otherwise good organization of the Dusseldorf cover. Showed captaincy as he folded Rostock’s Verhoek like a schoolboy after a foul on Klarer.
Note 3
In the 1-1 draw against Heidenheim, the Austrian suffered a back injury in the final minutes.
After a few training sessions, the central defender reported that he was fit to play in Rostock.
Got into the duels with healthy toughness and always showed the Rostockers that not a square centimeter of grass is given to them. But slept before the 1:4 and canceled the offside before the 2:4. But then forced the fifth goal, which the DFL even awarded him.
Note 3
The young Pole also had to give up his regular place temporarily due to injury…
…but then returned to his role at left-back, which he always plays very offensively.
A very strong performance in the Ostseestadion. Submission to Kownackis 0:1, pass to template provider Klaus at Hennings’ 0:2. Always on the move, great joy of playing. Outstanding especially in the first half.
Note 1-
The Dutchman had even more responsibility due to the loss of Marcel Sobottka, who was suspended.
The 28-year-old likes to have the game largely in front of him from the six-man position; but he usually lacks the “scooper” quality of Sobottka.
Immediately took hold of the strings and kept them there. Vigilant on defense, good at organizing the game. A bit nonchalant with a Hansa chance, but later lost the line a bit.
Note 3+
The return – after two league games with a total playing time of ten minutes, the Japanese returned to the starting field.
The World Cup participant has been the biggest disappointment in the team so far in the second half of the season and has not been able to tap into his great potential.
Participation in Kownacki’s opening goal when he put Karbownik on the wing with a brilliant display. Otherwise very enthusiastic, also on the defensive, much stronger than last.
Note 2
The experienced attacking winger is repeatedly criticized in public. Not always justified because he does a lot of work for the team that not everyone notices.
Against Heidenheim, however, he had also shown improving form on offense, so that one could be curious about his performance in Rostock.
Again very team-friendly and hard-working, although he was often fouled and was slightly injured early on. Strong assist for the second goal, dipped a bit after the break.
Note 3+
Probably the professional in the squad who has improved the most in recent weeks.
For years little more than a follower, the native of Düsseldorf is now a regular and there is no getting around it – the only question is in which position.
This time he alternated with Karbownik on the left and should put pressure down the wing. The 25-year-old also managed to do that; Assist point for his long throw-in at Zimmermann before his 0:3.
Note 3+
He is the undisputed number one in the Düsseldorf offensive, probably together with Kastenmeier the top seeded man for the starting XI.
The 25-year-old finally has the confidence he’s lacked for years.
The Rostockers couldn’t get a grip on them in the first half. Created danger everywhere, sank the ball ice-cold for the first goal in the net. Another very strong performance by the Polish national striker.
Note 2+
After two games that were mostly spent on the substitutes’ bench, the striker returned to the starting line-up.
A sign that coach Thioune still expects a lot from the 35-year-old.
The veteran thanked him for the trust after just 18 minutes with a classic dust-off. But not only because of this goal with a good first half. Very hardworking and strong in fighting, dropped a bit after the break.
