These are the Covid-19 tests that they sell on Facebook without the endorsement of Cofepris – Cafe Negro Portal

The Sanitary Protection Agency of Mexico City identified nine brands of Covid-19 tests that are sold on Facebook despite not being approved by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris).

The local Ministry of Health called on citizens not to buy the Covid-19 tests that are offered on Facebook because they represent a health risk since they can be “falsified or apocryphal tests and therefore their results are not reliable” .

“False negatives could occur and those who have the SARS-CoV2 virus, without knowing it, could spread the disease among their relatives,” the capital agency warned.

Yesterday, the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, called not to buy the tests that are sold on said social network.

“If you are aware of the illegal sale of rapid tests, you are encouraged to report it on the Cofepris website,” the Ministry of Health said in a press release.

The brands that until now have been identified as not authorized by Cofepris and that are offered on Facebook, according to the Ministry of Health of Mexico City are:

The demand for rapid tests and PCR skyrocketed with the rise of the fourth wave of Covid-19 infections caused by the advance of the Omicron variant, which, although it has not been shown to be more serious, is more viral.

The health authorities have recommended that in the presence of symptoms, they are assumed to be positive for Covid-19 and isolated without the need to take a test to confirm or rule out the presence of SARS-CoV-2.

However, people with symptoms and without proof have gone out in search of one to prove to their employers that they are positive cases and thereby justify the absence and therefore process the temporary incapacity for work.

Sheinbaum Pardo said in recent days that 40% of people seeking to take a test corresponded to people whose employers require a positive result in order to be absent from work due to symptoms associated with Covid-19.

The director of Economic and Social Benefits of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Mauricio Hernández, explained on his Twitter account that in recent weeks a record number of 92,967 applications for temporary incapacity for work was registered, the highest figure so far in the pandemic, with an increase of 460%.

It accounted for the three previous disability peaks: in week 30 of 2020 with 48,000 applications; week 22 of 2021 with 71,000, associated with the Gamma and Beta variants; 81,000 in week 32 of 2021 associated with the Delta variant and more than 92,000 in the last two weeks, associated with the Omicron variant.
