These are the Corona hotspots in Main-Spessart

The Corona hotspot Main-Spessart is no longer one. In the entire month of December there were 1196 new infections in the district, in January there were only 516 new infections. That means, out of 1000 Main-Spessarters, four were infected with Corona in this period in December it was about 9.5. The lockdown seems to be having an effect.

Most of the new infections were in Lohr: 73 were infected with the virus in January, in Karlstadt there were 55, in Gemnden 38 and in Marktheidenfeld 36. If you put the new infections in relation to the population of the cities, Lohr is only marginally more affected than that three other old district towns. Calculated for 1000 inhabitants, there were 4.5 new infections here in January. The other three cities are between 3.3 and 3.7. The city of Arnstein is more severely affected with 55 new infections, which corresponds to around 6.7 infections per 1000 inhabitants.

Number of cases in Wiesthal almost doubled

Some smaller communities also had to struggle with the virus in January; they do not attract attention with high absolute numbers of cases, but when you compare the new infections with the number of inhabitants. The front runner with around 15 new infections per 1000 inhabitants is Wiesthal in January the number of corona cases has almost doubled here, from 23 to 45. This is followed by Hafenlohr with almost 14 infections / 1000 inhabitants, Fellen (13.3) and Obersinn ( 12.6).

Hafenlohr was already severely affected in November and December, with 38 and 50 new infections in total, that is, 22 and 28 of 1000 inhabitants were newly infected in these months. The reason for this was, among other things, many infections in the retirement home.

Obersinn, on the other hand, was the only place in Main-Spessart that was still corona-free up to and including November, but in January there were 13 new cases. Skins have also been recorded for twelve new cases.

Corona traffic light is yellow

At the end of January, the district exceeded the limit of 3,000 infections for the first time since the pandemic began. Around 2.4 percent of the approximately 126,000 district residents have had the virus in the meantime (as of February 1).

133 people were acutely ill with Corona on February 1, in December there were at times over 600 people. Over the weekend there were 15 new infections in the district, the number of sick people since March has risen to 3025. 2710 people have now recovered from an illness, the district office announced on Monday. 524 close contacts of infected people are currently in quarantine. The number of those who died from or with the virus has been 182 since the middle of last week.

The seven-day incidence fell below the critical value of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants for the first time in weeks. This means that the “Corona traffic light” in Main-Spessart is yellow, while it is dark red in the neighboring districts of Miltenberg (incidence 189) and Aschaffenburg (130). The district of Bad Kissingen (incidence 91), the city and district of Schweinfurt (incidence 65 and 77, respectively) and the city and district of Wrzburg (66 and 77) are in light red. The only place in Bavaria with a green Corona traffic light is currently the city of Regensburg.
