Vaccination against covid-19 begins for people between 40 and 44 years old with scheduling
The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Fernando Ruiz Gómez, from Cartagena (Bolívar) where he led the Unified Command Post (PMU) 91, highlighted the progress of the National Vaccination Plan against covid-19, achieving indicators such as having a average of more than 300 thousand daily doses applied in recent weeks.
In this regard, he stated that, “every time one goes up a little step, the challenge is to stay. We have to be very strong to stay and keep pushing ”.
Likewise, he said that progress should be continued in the application of second doses, although in recent days this indicator has even represented more than 50% of the daily vaccinations reported.
In addition, the minister recommended continuing to advance in the vaccination of teachers, since all the first doses and a large number of second doses have already been sent. “We cannot have any apologies. We have a very big challenge and that is to have the teachers vaccinated by July 15 ready, ”said the minister.
On the other hand, he indicated that as of this Saturday, vaccination will be opened for the population between 40 and 44 years old by strict scheduling.
“We ask the secretaries of health to be very agile in delivering vaccines to the EPS and IPS who vaccinate with scheduling, if there is a problem in the delivery of the vaccine, we will have problems”added the head of the Health portfolio.
Additionally, he affirmed that efforts should continue to be made to vaccinate the population over 50 years of age, which is the most vulnerable to the virus and that, as has been shown, vaccination saves lives, as has been evidenced by the groups over 70 and 80 years old, in addition to human talent in health, the first priority groups in the National Vaccination Plan against covid-19.
In people over 80, practically 90% of those vaccinated, but that 10% that are still unvaccinated can generate complex situations, added Ruiz Gómez.
Among other approaches, the minister stressed that the vaccination of those over 50 and now over 45 has been promoted, and now there will be the possibility of immunizing with the Janssen vaccine, which will be sent to capitals and metropolitan areas.
