Sputnik V could soon also be produced in the EU. In Russia itself, it is already giving the pharmaceutical sector a boost. But who will benefit from it? A search for traces of the rich players – with some strange references to Europe.
As cosmopolitan as the Russian State Fund for Direct Investment (RDIF) likes to be, it goes underground at crucial moments. He has not been available for inquiries since Monday. He apparently has brand new information that would interest Europe – namely where in the EU the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik V is to be produced. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the RDFI, who is responsible for the pre-financing and marketing of the vaccine, announced on Monday that an agreement had been reached with companies from Germany, Italy, France and Spain as soon as the vaccine was approved by the EU set.
Whatever the result, and whether the EU joins the dozen countries that are dealing with the vaccine and that will obtain it from a foreign license production, which in time might also take place in Austria: In Russia itself, the assembly lines are in any case Pharmaceutical companies hot. The willingness to vaccinate in the population leaves a lot to be desired. But the eight companies that have been awarded the contract for production are working flat out and are looking for ways to expand capacities in order to be able to deliver the 150 million cans targeted for this year. And in order to take a developmental momentum with us from the current situation and thus implement the strategy of localizing production and increasing exports formulated in the state program “Pharma 2030”.
The Russian players
Because that Corona and the successful Sputnik V pushed the domestic pharmaceutical sector, there is no question, like a senior manager of a well-known European pharmaceutical company who does not want to be called by name because – as he admits – the US business is not due to too much Russian praise to affect, explained in an interview with the “press”. But who are the Russian players whose business is being expanded significantly through the production of Sputnik V? Who will earn a lot of money with the new vaccine?
