These are the 48 black flags on Spanish beaches

One more year, the NGO ‘Ecologists in Action’ has analyzed the 8,000 kilometers of coastline of Spain to study which of them are in worse condition. As a consequence, it ‘punishes’ the most polluted or with the most environmental problems with a black flag.

This summer, among the 48 (two from each coastal province) that suffer serious problems such as urban speculation, untreated wastewater discharges, accumulation of garbage or the erosion of the coast, they repeat that of the port of Fonsalía (in Santa Cruz de Tenerife) or that of Mar Menor (in Murcia), whose situation continues to worsen over time.

The emergence of COVID-19

The project Black Flags celebrates this year the fifteenth anniversary and continues to fight for the care of the beaches. In addition, as if that were not enough, ‘Ecologists in Action’ denounces some consequences of the appearance of COVID-19 in this 2020, like the dumping of masks and gloves on the beaches and seas of our country.

All of this significantly affects marine flora and fauna, the main responsible for all these conditions being humans.
