Galicia had at the end of 2020 2.6 million inhabitants, five thousand less than a year earlier. The evolution of the population in the autonomous community is decreasing (we are losing inhabitants) but there are big differences between the different regions.
The metropolitan areas of Vigo and A Coruña are emerging areas, gaining inhabitants year after year, while cities like Ferrol or the rural areas of the interior suffer a trickle of resident casualties.
The third city, Ourense, has lost inhabitants in the last two decades. Lugo and Santiago have grown, but do not reach 100,000 inhabitants.

The city of Olívica has been the first municipality in Galicia in terms of population for decades. 296,000 inhabitants according to the INE, almost 11% of the population of the autonomous community.
So far in this century it has grown, but little. In 2000, the population was 285,000.
2. A Coruña
The second municipality in the Galician ranking is A Coruña. 247,000 members, almost 50,000 less than Vigo. Since 2000 it has gained only 6,000 inhabitants (241,000 inhabitants out of 2,000).
