Tens of thousands of NEOs are in the path of the earth. Some of them are very close to Earth in 2023. Photo/IST
In astronomical terms, NEO refers to cosmic bodies whose orbits approach that of the Earth. Most NEOs are asteroid mostly small, although more than a hundred comets also fall into this category.
Some NEOs are classified as potentially dangerous. NEOs that fall into this category are objects whose orbits are within 0.05 astronomical units (about 4.6 million miles) of Earth’s path around the sun. Also, NEO is included in the dangerous category if it has a diameter of more than 140 meters.

Well, below is a list of the largest potentially dangerous NEOs, all of which are asteroids, that will make their closest approach to Earth this year. Let’s look at anything:
1. 139622 (2001 QQ142)
This asteroid is estimated to be between 1,738 and 3,937 feet, meaning it’s about two and a half times taller than Chicago’s Willis Tower. This asteroid will pass by Earth on December 6, 2023. It will be 3.4 million miles from Earth.
2. 199145 (2005 YY128)
This asteroid is estimated to be between 1,870 and 4,265 feet in diameter. This means it may be slightly larger than Angel Falls in Venezuela. This object will fly past us on February 16, 2023, at a minimum distance of about 2.8 million miles.
