In its quest to revive its declining regions, Italy continues to announce new and new initiatives to attract young people.
The southern one is the last to join this trend the Calabria region, which will pay up to € 28,000 to those wishing to relocate to one of the local villages for at least three years, writes Forbes.
“The goal is to strengthen the local economy and breathe new life into small communities,” Gianluca Gallo, a regional government adviser, told CNN.
As with the schemes for the sale of historic houses in Italy for 1 euro, here too a number of conditions.
As the aim of the campaign is to attract young people, they can benefit from financial aid only people up to 40 years of age.
In addition, they must be applied within 90 days after the completion of the formalities, as well as yes start a small business in the village or to engage in an already existing one. It is also possible that they are people practicing professions considered necessary by the administrations of the respective settlements. There are also opportunities for one-time grants for those who want to open a hotel, bar, shop or other business.
The program is expected to launch in a few weeks, with a total budget of 700,000 euros.
So far, nine of the villages in the Calabria region have applied to participate in the program. Some are mountainous and others are located on the beach.
