The success of these conglomerates is not only in the local market. They also managed to put themselves on the list of the richest people in Indonesia, thanks to their significant contribution to the development of the instant noodle industry.

So, which conglomerates have succeeded in living in the ranks of the richest people in Indonesia thanks to instant noodles? The following is a list reported by Forbes.

Anthony Salim

Antoni Salim leads the Salim Group with investments in several sectors, such as food, retail, banking, telecommunications and energy. He is also the CEO of Indofood, one of the largest instant noodle producers in the world with a revenue of $6.4 billion or approximately IDR 96.8 trillion, where the Indomie brand is the main brand.

Currently, Anthoni Salim is in the fifth position of the richest person in Indonesia with wealth reaching $10.3 billion, approximately IDR 156.2 trillion.

He is currently the President Director of consumer goods supplier PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk. (INDF) and also its subsidiary, PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur Tbk. (ICBP) which is the representative of Indomie.

Hendra Atmadja Games

Jogi is the director of the Mayora Group, one of the largest food companies in Indonesia. This group markets products such as Kopiko, Danisa, and Roma in more than 100 countries, including instant noodle products such as Oven Noodles, Migelas, and Bakmi Mewah.

MYOR was established in 1977 with the first factory located in Tangerang. After meeting the Indonesian market, the Company made an Initial Public Offering and became a public company in 1990.

His current wealth reaches $4.4 billion or approximately IDR 66.7 trillion. This puts him in the 11th position of the richest person in Indonesia.

Husain Djjonegoro

Husain and his two brothers run the Orang Tua Group business, which is known for its food and beverage products. In addition, they also manage the ABC Group which produces various products, including instant noodles under the Mie ABC and Gurimi brands.

Parental Business, born by the cold hands of two brothers, that is, Husain’s father, Chu Sam Yak or Chandra Djjonegoro and Chu Sok Sam. The herbal wine business with the Orang Tua brand was established through NV Handel Maatschappij May Lian & Co in Semarang.

After that, this company changed its name to PT Perindustrian Bapak Djenggot which later became Orang Tua Group. Orang Tua’s iconic wine business grew rapidly until he had two wine factories in Semarang and Jakarta.

Chandra Husain appointed director of PT International Chemical Industrial Co. Ltd. founded in 1959. The company is involved in the production of ABC brand batteries.

In 1974, the company expanded its business area to the food sector by establishing CV Central Foods Industrial Corporation or Central Food. Using the ABC brand that is embedded in people’s minds, the company developed ABC branded soy sauce with sweet, salty and mild variants.

OT has also released several instant noodle products that existed in the early 2000s, including Mie Selera Rakyat, Kare Mie, and Happy Mie. But unfortunately, these three instant noodle brands are no longer produced.

Currently, Husain has a wealth of $1.15 billion or approximately IDR 17.4 trillion, making him the 42nd richest person in Indonesia.

Eddy the Cat

Eddy manages Wings Group, one of the largest producers of household goods in Indonesia. One of their best products is Mie Sedaap brand instant noodles, which have been sold in many countries.

He is the second generation of the Wings Group and is the son of the founder of the Wings Group, Johannes Ferdinand Katuari. This family company was first established by Ferdinand Katuari and Harjo Sutanto in 1948 in Surabaya, called Fa Wings. At that time his business was making bar soap at home.

Under Eddy’s leadership, Wings Group expanded into household products, personal care and food production. In the 2000s, through the Wings Group, he expanded into property, plantation, oleo chemical and ceramic industries.

In the oleo chemical industry, Wings Surya collaborates with the Salim Group and Lautan Luas Group through PT Ecogreen. Meanwhile, in the packaging industry, Wings is partnering with PT Kinocare Era Kosmetindo

With a current wealth of $1.03 billion or about IDR 15.6 trillion, Eddy ranks 46th on the list of the richest people in Indonesia.

Djjadi Djjadi

The figure of Djjadi Djaja was the first to move the Indomie industry, an instant favorite of Indians. From 1959, he started doing business with his high school friends and built a company called FA Djangkar Djati, later renamed Wicaksana Overseas International.

Then Djajadi Djaja et al, in April 1970, founded Sanmaru Food Manufacturing, whose factory since 1972 has been producing instant noodles under the name Indomie, an abbreviation of Indonesian Mie. The factory was founded by Djajadi Djaja together with Chow Ming Hua, Wahyu Tjuandi, Ulong Senjaya, and Pandi Kusuma. The business group from Medan (North Sumatra) was named ANCHOR Jati Group.

Liem Sioe Liong or Sudono Salim, who is in the wheat flour business, also does instant noodle business under the Sarimie and Supermie brands through PT Lima Satu Sankyu and PT Sarimi Asli Jaya since 1968. However, then Liem went to Djajadi and joined the production of Indomie, by establishing PT Indofood Eterna in 1984.

Soon after Indomie and Sarimie merged, Supermie joined as well. Thanks to Uncle Liem, instant noodle products have become popular in the Indonesian market.

However, in 1993, Djjadi’s company faced financial difficulties. As a result, the Salim Group cut ties and expelled him from Indofood.

Long story short, Djajadi then continued selling instant noodles under the umbrella of PT Jakarana Tama. This company is called Mie Gaga, Mie “100”, “1000”, Mie Gepeng, Mie Telor A1, Otak-otak, and Sausage Jump.

Currently, Djjadi is a Commissioner at PT Wicaksana Overseas International Tbk. (DKSH).
