These 5 Diseases and Conditions Make You Always Thirsty

Harianjogja.com, JAKARTA – The scorching sun outdoors causes excessive water loss in the form of sweat, which makes us drink more fluids than we would normally do in other seasons.

In addition, intense exercise and intake of spicy and fatty foods can also make you waste a lot of water in a day. This is an indication that your body lacks water and you need to replenish it so that the organs can continue their work without interruption.

But if you are constantly refilling your water glass for no good reason, then it could be a sign of other health problems.

Some health conditions can make you feel dry once in a while. Signs of dehydration due to a medical condition can also be accompanied by fatigue. Here are five diseases that make you always thirsty.

1. Diabetes

When cells in your body become resistant to insulin, your kidneys have to work harder to remove excess sugar from your blood. This increases your intensity of going to the restroom. As a result, you feel dry and want to drink more fluids than before. Frequent urination and excessive thirst are two early signs of diabetes.

2. Anemia

Anemia is a condition in which your body doesn’t have enough red blood cells to make hemoglobin. It can be caused due to several reasons such as poor diet or heavy bleeding. Dehydration is a common sign of anemia. The signs are more prominent when you have severe anemia. Other symptoms of this condition include dizziness, fatigue, sweating and others.

3. Hypercalcemia

Hypercalcemia is a condition in which the calcium levels in the body rise to dangerous levels. This may occur due to overactive parathyroid glands, tuberculosis and cancer. Feeling thirsty may be the first symptom of hypercalcemia. Excessive amounts of calcium in the blood can weaken bones and create kidney stones.

4. Dry mouth

When the salivary glands don’t make enough saliva, it may make you feel very thirsty. It can occur due to some medications or treatments such as cancer or lifestyle habits such as tobacco use. Other symptoms of dry mouth may include bad breath, taste changes, irritated gums and difficulty chewing.

5. Pregnancy

There are several signs of pregnancy and feeling dry is one of them. During the first trimester, blood volume increases which forces the kidneys to make excess fluid which makes you urinate. Losing water from the body makes you thirsty, which is an indication that you need to replenish the amount of water you lost.
