These 4 unexpected things have a negative effect on your fertility

Getting pregnant isn’t always as easy as you’d like. In one in six couples it takes even longer than a year. This could be due to many different factors, but not all of them are so obvious.

unfavorable

If you want to have children, it can sometimes take a while before you are pregnant. Quite logical actually, when you consider that a woman is only fertile for a few days a month and the lifespan of sperm (five days) and an egg (24 hours) is only short. The chance of a successful meeting between the two is therefore also quite small. In addition, there are several other factors that can influence your fertility, such as smoking, alcohol and being overweight. Also the things below can be unfavorable for conception.

1. Toothpaste

Harvard researchers discovered that certain toothpaste ingredients have a negative effect on fertility. In particular, the bactericidal substance triclosan would affect the supply of eggs in your ovaries. Triclosan should be gone from your body within 24 hours, but the question is whether that’s good news, since you probably brush your teeth every day. If you have a desire to have children, it is wise to choose a completely natural toothpaste.

2. Intensive sports

Exercise is good for you, right? In a sense this is of course true: the fitter you are, the better your fertility. However, this doesn’t mean you should tire yourself out in the gym four times a week. A study by the Technical University of Norway shows that too intensive training ensures that our body does not have enough energy to become pregnant. If you want to become pregnant, it is better to opt for a relaxing yoga class instead of a boot camp.

3. Carbohydrates

British scientists discovered that a low-carbohydrate diet has a positive effect on fertility. When your daily diet consists of no more than 40 percent carbohydrates, your hormones come into balance and that ensures proper ovulation. It would be best to eat mostly carbohydrates for breakfast.

4. Only sex around ovulation

Many couples who want to get pregnant only have sex around ovulation. But those who want to get pregnant quickly should also have sex at times when the woman is not ovulating. When a man has little sex, the sperm remains in the scrotum for too long, which reduces the quality. That’s why it’s best to have sex every two to three days. The quality of sex is also important, according to experts. The more vaginal mucus a woman makes, the better the sperm can ‘swim’.
