Thérondels: the drinking water plant soon to be operational

The Aubrac, Carladez and Viadène community of communes (CCACV) is responsible for the distribution of drinking water throughout its territory. In the Carladez, it contracts by delegation of public service with the company Véolia to ensure the operation of the factory located in Pont-la-Vieille. The CCACV is currently carrying out a project to fit out a new factory which will be commissioned at the end of the year.

Currently, the plant provides drinking water to nearly 3,000 inhabitants all year round (including Saint-Hippolyte, to whom the water is sold). The site is equipped with a treatment plant and a 500 cubic meter reservoir.

By the end of 2021, work on the new 307 square meter plant, followed by the CCACV, the Cantal and Aveyron state services, companies and Véolia, will end.

Why this reconstruction?

The first challenge is to bring them up to standard capable of responding to the treatment problems encountered thanks to a new di “two-layer” filtration system; the construction of the plant is near the water intake in the Siniq; the plant will be equipped with a new 700 cubic meter reservoir under it (the reservoir of the old plant will be maintained and rehabilitated); recovery of sludge from treatment; a warning station will make it possible to anticipate any risk of water pollution; the plant will guarantee healthier and more sustainable production thanks to the photovoltaic production plant which will produce nearly 50% of the energy required by the plant. Note that after the commissioning of this new plant, the project involves the demolition of the old site.

For Jean Valadier president of the CCACV: “We are developing this new site, fully aware of the challenges of water resources, which are precious and which we absolutely must preserve. This new plant offers a more efficient process which will allow us better control of water treatment. It is up to us collectively to control this essential resource as well as possible by limiting our consumption but also by preserving our wetlands and ensuring the quality of our waterways. “

A “tailor-made” factory

For her part, Annie Cazard, vice-president of the CCACV who has followed the project closely from the start, notes: “This new plant is tailor-made to concretely respond to recurring issues around mineralization and sludge treatment. We have also carried out the necessary work on the water level for better integration into the natural environment, as well as the creation of of the diversion channel which will ensure the minimum biological flow and ecological continuity on the Siniq for a good circulation of fish. This channel is essential for the cleaning of the body of water. The catchment on the Siniq, course of water which crosses Cantal and Aveyron has led to work in close collaboration with the Cantal and Aveyron State services. It was the subject of a public utility declaration and works authorization decree which emanates from both departments. “
