Jakarta –
There are still many who doubt the range of electric motors and their durability. However, this girl biker is determined to tour across continents by riding an electric motorbike. There’s no fear here.
She is Sinje Gottwald. Quoted by Paultan, Gottwald rode the Cake Kalk AP electric motorbike during his transcontinental journey from Spain to South Africa. For this action, Gottwald has broken the record for the longest solo trip without assistance using an electric motor.
Gottwald Started his journey from Spain in October 2022. Gottwald covered 13,000 km in 124 days. The trip ends in South Africa in February 2023.
During his journey, Gottwald drove from Morocco to Gambia, then along the Ivory Coast, and onward through Ghana, over the challenging terrain of Mauritania and Senegal, which are famous as race locations in the Paris-Dakar Rally.
According to Gottwald, the Kalk AP’s electric motor worked flawlessly during the trip. The only problem is a burnt fuse which is easy to fix. The Kalk AP electric motor, designed for fleeting driving pleasure, goes far beyond its diminutive design.
“Finding a place to charge was the hardest part, in some areas it was really difficult, and I had to plan my day very meticulously. Most of the time, I didn’t know if I was going to find a place to charge at all,” says Gottwald.
For the transcontinental trip, Gottwald brought two batteries, two chargers, spare parts including controller, display, throttle, chain and fuses, tools, laptop in case the bike needed a software update or remote support, camera and personal equipment. He added that the Kalk AP’s electric motor is virtually maintenance-free, except for lubrication and chain adjustment.
Gottwald is a veteran motorcyclist, first coming to the attention of the public during his 2017 solo round-the-world trip as well as road tripping from Europe to Asia, exploring Australia, road trips from South to North America, and from Morocco to Mali.
“With this adventure I want to not only open up my own and people’s views and ideas about this continent, but also provide an example of what is possible even if the challenges seem too great at first. We are capable of much more than we think,” said Gottwald.
