Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A number of roads in Jakarta are closed today. This is to anticipate the ‘Jokowi End Game’ demo which is scheduled to be held today, Saturday (24/7/2021).
This call had circulated on social media. The action on the road is planned to be held around the Jakarta State Palace.
The masses are planning to conduct a long march from Glodok. It is not clear who will carry out the action.
From the observation, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat and Jalan Medan Merdeka Utara were closed with a barrier. Barbed fences also appear to be on alert.
Meanwhile, Polda Metro Jaya stated that as many as 3,385 joint personnel were deployed to secure the action. They consist of joint police, TNI, and local government personnel who have been on standby since 07.00.
Karo Ops Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Marsudianto said thousands of personnel were deployed at several points to provide security. “(Deployed) around Monas then arrived around the DPR as well,” he told reporters.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, asked the public not to hold demonstrations. He is worried that the action taking to the streets that triggers crowds has the potential to spread the corona virus (Covid-19).
