It has been a lot of speculation around the relationship between Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo. Many wondered if “Drivers License” is about Bassett falling in love with co-star Sabrina Carpenter (21), when it ended between him and Rodrigo.
Septic shock and heart failure
In a new interview with the American men’s magazine GQ he now reveals why he did not speak out when the song became popular all over the world and took off on TikTok.
– It started with me getting really bad, and it only got worse, Bassett says about the days around Rodrigo’s song release.
While “the whole world” wanted an answer, Bassett ended up in hospital.
– I just got worse, and worse, and worse, he says.
A few days after the “Drivers License” was released, Bassett suffered septic shock and heart failure, he tells GQ.

Septic shock is according to the Great Medical Lexicon a severe condition with failing tissue perfusion in a patient with sepsis.
From the hospital, Bassett is said to have been told that he could have risked not surviving, if he had waited longer to seek help.
While rumors continued to swirl, Bassett says he had no energy to focus on anything other than staying alive.
With treatment in hospital, he was eventually able to return to his normal life.

– The rumors do not bother me
In March, he commented for the first time the rumors, two months after the song was released.
– I know what reality is, and the truth about my life – so the rumors do not bother me, said the popular actor at the time.
Months later, he is still not interested in saying anything more about the relationships he has had with the two “High School Musical: The Series” actors.
“Focus on these women, and who they are … instead of their relationship with a guy,” Bassett told GQ.
With her debut album “SOUR”, Olivia Rodrigo has experienced enormous success. At the moment, the album is the most popular on both Norwegian and global Spotify lists, and the song “good 4 u” is number one.
