There will still be a real winter! See what the polar brings us…

The weather from mid-December until now does not at all remind us that we are in the middle of winter. High temperatures have caused problems for a number of winter resorts in Bulgaria, the Balkans and Europe, but it looks like the weather is yet to change, reports Meteo Balkans.

Here’s what else they write from there:

Recent analyzes of global models predict that we can expect a more permanent change in circulation in Europe and stronger incursions of Arctic mass. Italian meteorologists at the website ilmeteo.to also agree.

In the past few weeks, we have observed that the Siberian anticyclone has already developed and covers a large area of Russia, Mongolia and China, with atmospheric pressure in its center exceeding 1040-1050hPa, and temperatures in the core of the polar air mass have decreased and in places to -40 degrees Celsius.

According to the analyses, the weakening of the polar vortex is expected by the end of this week and the beginning of the next. It plays a key role during the Northern Hemisphere winter season, as it is the factor that sharply changes the circulation in Europe.

We expect more frequent incursions of air masses from polar latitudes to the old continent. The usual colder weather in Central and Eastern Europe creates conditions for strong cyclones and heavy snowfall in the Balkans.

Shorter term we expect warmer weather than usual for January. The Balkans will be covered by a warm and moist air mass and temperatures on the peninsula will rise.

As we have emphasized more than once, such forecasts are uncertain in the long term and may be subject to change.
